Our
Background
The Greater Peterborough Area Economic
Development Corporation (GPA EDC) is a regional
economic development organization contracted to
provide investment attraction & expansion and
tourism services for the City and County of
Peterborough, Ontario.
Formed in 1998, the GPA EDC operates as a non-profit
corporation without share capital governed by a Board
of Directors under the Corporations Act of Ontario. In
July 2005 the City and County of Peterborough renewed
their successful partnership with the GPA EDC by
entering into a 3-year agreement that commits base
funding through 2008. Subsequently the Letters Patent
of the Corporation were amended to remove political
appointees from the Board and install the chief
administrative officers of the City and County of
Peterborough as ex-officio directors. Since inception
the GPA EDC has had influence on an estimated 2000 new
jobs for the region, attracted almost $6 million in
external funding and been recognized with over 20
industry awards.

community economic development services including:

information source for consultants, businesses and
agents
- Maintain
current economic data, statistics and information
on the GPA
- Assist
with property and building site location and
selection
- Encourage and assist business
retention and expansion
- Source
and promote government and private sector funding
programs
- Encourage
and facilitate local community development
projects
- Local
liaison to federal and provincial economic
development agencies
- Develop
partnerships to promote, support and sustain
economic growth
- Mediate
conflicts and advocate for business concerns
